I was born in Oklahoma City, OK on December 15, 1968. I grew up there and attended Star Spencer high school in Spencer, Ok. Concurrently, I received my Commercial Art Certification from Foster Estes Vo-tech on May 1987. It was at Foster Estes that I began to explore art as a means to tell stories and express my inner thoughts. I enjoyed that experience so much that it catapulted my interest in the possibility of working as an artist as a career.
I received many awards in various art competitions during my two years of technical training, including a very prestigious award for placing first in the Oklahoma State VICA Commercial Art competition.
In September 1987, I made the decision to pursue a 5-year commitment in the US Army. Those years were very challenging but also very rewarding. One the my best experiences was being able to travel extensively, exploring art and architecture of different countries and cultures from around the world. I was able to see up close original works of art created by the old masters, such as, Michelangelo and Rembrandt. This experience turned out to be just the thing I needed to inspire me to become a serious painter.
In 2005, with the encouragement and support of my wife, Crystal, we started our own art business. We have participated in many art shows and arts festivals around the state of Oklahoma and other cities around the country. I have placed top three in many of the shows that I have entered, including, 1st place in the 2013 Stillwater Art Show, in Stillwater, OK; 1st place in the 2013 Guthrie Escape Arts festival; and Best of show in the 2014 Guthrie Escape Arts Festival, and more recent awards in Medicine Park Downtown Edmond Arts Festival and others.
Individual art collectors and business owners alike have purchased my work. Also, I have been commissioned to do many custom paintings for individual clients. It has been a great pleasure to successfully bring the vision of others to life on canvas, especially when the completed piece has met or exceeded the client’s expectations.
I have been fortunate to study under some really talented artist. I have also taken a number of painting and drawing workshops. However, I am mostly a self-taught artist. I attribute my ability to create as an artist to God. I am truly blessed to have such a wonderful gift.
I have artwork displayed in Masters House gallery, Moore, OK; In Your Eye Gallery, Paseo district, Oklahoma, OK.
I use many different mediums, such as oils, acrylics, pencil, and pastels. I have found that working with a variety of tools, trying different styles, and experimenting with new processes expands my ability to express my ideas in many different and challenging ways.
I am primarily influenced by the supreme creator, the Lord Jesus Christ. I understand that it was He who blessed me with a gift. And with this gift I am able to express, in my own way, the beauty of the world around me.
The inspiration around me is always fresh and new. I look around and observed many magnificent and beautiful works of the Lord. This is what inspires me to create. I start with a blank canvas, working intentionally and skillfully to hopefully complete a piece that will bring happiness and peace to others.
