Jerron Johnston – Expressions of Peace and Precision in Art
Jerron Johnston is a self-taught fine artist and technical illustrator based in Oklahoma City whose work merges centuries of art history with a deeply personal vision. With over three decades of practice, Johnston’s paintings and drawings are born from an intimate dialogue between classical technique and contemporary expression.
Born and raised in Oklahoma City, Johnston earned his Commercial Art Certification from Foster Estes Vo-tech in 1987. There, he discovered the power of art to communicate complex ideas and emotions, winning multiple first-place awards in student competitions. Later that year, he enlisted in the U.S. Army as a helicopter electrician, serving five years including a tour during Desert Storm. His deployments took him through Europe, where encounters with Michelangelo’s sculptural strength and Rembrandt’s dramatic chiaroscuro instilled in him a lifelong fascination with light, form, and narrative.
After transitioning to civilian life, Johnston joined Tinker Air Force Base in 1999. He first worked as a KC-135 aircraft electrician and eventually became a technical order illustrator. Meticulous by necessity, he learned to render mechanical diagrams with absolute clarity—an exacting discipline that would later inform his precision in fine art.
In 2005, Johnston and his wife Crystal founded Jerron Johnston Art Studios LLC. Within this creative hub, he produces original oils, acrylics, graphite, and pastel works and offers mentorship to emerging artists. His series “Expressions of Peace” invites viewers into contemplative spaces where each brushstroke carries both spiritual intent and technical rigor.
Specializing in custom portrait commissions, Johnston takes immense pride in bringing the visions of others to life through his work. His style reflects spiritual inspiration and an unwavering commitment to craftsmanship. Though he has participated in various workshops and studied with talented artists, Johnston credits much of his artistic development to divine guidance and intuitive exploration.
Johnston’s art is celebrated for its emotional resonance and spiritual depth. He approaches each piece with an intentional, skillful process, seeking to create works that offer peace and inspiration to those who encounter them. While his artistic interests are broad, he is especially drawn to portraiture and storytelling, endeavoring to capture not only a subject’s appearance but also their unique essence.
Johnston’s works of art are exhibited at In Your Eye Gallery in Oklahoma City’s Paseo Arts District, and at Southern Nazarene University science building in Oklahoma City. His work is also displayed in many private collections, and selected for many art festivals, such as: Festival of the Arts in Oklahoma City, Downtown Edmond Arts Festival, Paseo Arts Festival, and the Mayfest Arts Festival in Tulsa Oklahoma. Johnston’s paintings have earned top awards in juried exhibitions and are desired by private collectors and businesses alike.
Guided by faith in Jesus Christ, Johnston regards his talent as a gift meant to uplift and connect. Every piece begins with intentional sketching and evolves through layers of color and light designed to bring peace, purpose, and a moment of transcendent beauty to the viewer. Whether you encounter his art in a gallery or a private collection, Johnston’s work offers a bridge between historical mastery and heartfelt expression.
I use many different mediums, such as oils, acrylics, pencil, and pastels. I have found that working with a variety of tools, trying different styles, and experimenting with new processes expands my ability to express my ideas in many different and challenging ways.

The inspiration around me is always fresh and new. I look around and observed many magnificent and beautiful works of the Lord. This is what inspires me to create. I start with a blank canvas, working intentionally and skillfully to hopefully complete a piece that will bring happiness and peace to others.
